Book CLUBS sometimes feel like one more deadline on your to-do list. So for now let’s have a recommendation list. What are you reading and liking? There will be no genre-shaming here–if you like textbooks from the 1950s, gargoyle smut, or Junie B Jones, we’re here for it.

Right now I’m reading

Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Guiffre and it is straight-up pain. My therapist made me put it in the freezer.

Absolute Wonder Woman. My son recommended this. A reboot of our favorite Amazon only this time she’s Daughter of Circe, Princess of Hell, and Witch of the Wild Isle.

The Story of CO2 is the Story of Everything by my second-favorite science writer Peter Brannen. I’m doing this one via Audible while I try to finish a cross-stitch for an upcoming craft fair

Editor-In-Chief of Pretty Good Social. My side-hustle is writing mystery novels. I've been a copywriter, community manager, assistant editor, student at many different institutions, plus I've been an au pair and a fast-food worker and I even owned a used bookstore for a hot minute. Mom of three, pet mom of five, wife of one.

  • I also am reading "Nobody's Girl" it is a tough read.

I recommend "Grandma Gatewood's Walk: The inspiring sorry of the woman who saved the Appalachian Trail" by Ben Montgomery
    And
"Where the Deer and the Antelope Play" by Nick Offerman (Parks and Rec) he has other books too I haven't gotten through all of them.

I am for the first time in a book club and  we are reading some heavy books on Fascism, White Christian Nationalism and stuff like that. We switched to some lighter reading for the upcoming holidays.

  • Book clubs or not, I highly recommend any of TJ Newman's three books, "Falling", "Drowning", or "Worst Case Scenario". Top notch, but you may not want to read if you're about to board a flight.

Otherwise, I am a huge Stephen King fan, love Chris Hauty's Hailey Chill thriller series, Jack Carr's "Terminal List" series (yes, the books that the Chris Pratt series on Prime is based off of), and local to me Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell and Ryder Creed series (both are set in the same universe and any can be read in any order).

I also love Christa's Lexi Cooper series!!!

  • I usually read a little bit darker themed books, but my friend group's last book club choice was a Rom-Com (Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez) and I was surprised by how enjoyable it was to read!

Other books I've read lately that I really enjoyed are the Pines trilogy by Blake Crouch (Sci-Fi), Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova (Horror), and The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup (Mystery/Crime).

I'm reading Nefando by Mónica Ojeda currently, and I'm not really loving it but I'm going to keep reading a little more. Who knows what I'll be reading next, my TBR list is looooooong and always growing.
