Is there a stigma to side hustling?
Posted by: Christa CharterIn this article by Cathy Bussewitz writing for The Associated Press she quotes Alexandrea Ravenelle, sociologist and gig economy researcher at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ravenelle cautioned against relying too heavily on gig work for income. It can be hard to transition back to full-time, permanent jobs, where workers typically wait two weeks or more for a first paycheck, and gig work carries a stigma among some employers, she said. What do you think about a stigma? Have you experienced this?

Book CLUBS sometimes feel like one more deadline on your to-do list. So for now let's have a recommendation list. What are you reading and liking? There will be no genre-shaming here--if you like textbooks from the 1950s, gargoyle smut, or Junie B Jones, we're here for it. Right now I'm reading Nobody's Girl by Virginia Guiffre and it is straight-up pain. My therapist made me put it in the freezer. Absolute Wonder Woman. My son recommended this. A reboot of our favorite Amazon only this time she's Daughter of Circe, Princess of Hell, and Witch of the Wild Isle. The Story of CO2 is the Story of Everything by my second-favorite science writer Peter Brannen. I'm doing this one via Audible while I try to finish a cross-stitch for an upcoming craft fair

What do you call your passion project?
Posted by: Christa CharterWhat's the difference between a job and a side-hustle? I think traditionally the side hustle is something you do in addition to a full-time job. But what if you have a part-time job and a side hustle? What if the side-hustle is your true passion and the capital J JOB is just how you get health insurance. My feeling is you get to describe yourself however you want to. "I wait tables but I'm really an actor" "Teaching pays the bills (almost) but my dream is to compose operas" "I'm working retail during the week and my band gigs on weekends" I'm not sure anyone goes to cocktail parties anymore--your mileage may vary on that--but what do you say when someone asks "What do you do?"
